Golf is a Mighty Game
The internet is full of free golf instruction tips and videos with the aim of helping golfers improve their swings or scores. However, perhaps the greatest lessons to be learned come from the mighty game itself.
There is one particular book I read many years ago by Michael Murphy called Golf in the Kingdom from which I can still recall this quote:
"In golf one sees the essence of what the world itself demands - the game is a mighty teacher"
With just a ball, a club and a piece of land there are seemingly limitless discoveries to be made.
This page is my attempt to link to interesting schemes associated with golf - projects that make me proud to be involved in the game...
The Mighty Game of Golf can easily be confused with the glamour of big money stakes in the professional tournaments one sees on satellite television. But the passion people find in the game runs a lot deeper than that.
Two huge topics of the moment and of the the future will be: the environment and social responsibility. Golf has the potential to play a role in both these issues. Evidently, golf's governing bodies believe this strongly and they support many fantastic associations who do some terrific work to develop and promote educational programmes within golf and make them available to ALL.
In America, programs such as
The first Tee Organisation
have become extremely popular. Even if you find
this video
a bit glitsy, chapters of this organisation in the United States do undeniably good work in their local areas.
In Europe, there are also many programmes that follow similar themes in their own style and manner. For example there is
The Golf Foundation
in the United Kingdom. This charitable organisation has many links throughout the golf industry and its causes are keenly supported by influencial bodies such as the European Tour.
Golf is the complete game in many ways. Perhaps more than any other sport, the discipline of golf and the golf course environment contains a whole multitude of related expertises that have the potential to inspire discovery and promote learning. For example agriculture/greenkeeping techniques/machinery, plant and wildlife study, physics of ball flight/club technology, course facilty architecture/design/construction, rules and etiquette guidelines, communication/politics, health/well-being/safety... the list goes on...
For some, the image of Golf is somewhat stuffy and elite. Over time I will post links and write reports that involve a
changing image
of golf on an international stage.
Here are more links that contain related themes...

Often viewed as an extravagance, do artificial golf greens have the potential to solve...

Updates from the EGU Director of Coaching:
When I played for England teams, Peter Mattsson was ever present. At that time he was the Swedish Golf team programme manager. What he helped develop in Sweden became the envie of Golf Federations/Unions around Europe... So much so that he was head-hunted by the English Golf Union (EGU).
Peter Mattsson spends every waking hour in the cause of helping young golfers reach out and be the best possible players and people they can.
