However the aesthetics of Jim Furyk's swing may appear or whatever is said in any "expert's" swing analysis of Jim Furyk's swing, this is a player who measures an efficient golf swing in results only.
To give another example along those lines, a swing coach and mentor of mine (Tony Moore) was good friends with Bobby Locke. Tony often tells the story of how, when people used to mention or critisize Bobby's weak left hand grip, the great champion replied with: "doesn't matter... I pick cheques up with my right hand"!
Swing Technique Training and Performance...
The previous paragraph is by no means designed to belittle technical swing work because there is no doubt that good golf swing mechanics can greatly influence performance. It would make no sense that pro golfers invest so significantly in this aspect of their training were it not the case:
Why would pro golfers spend so much time on the practice range doing this?
Why would Nick Faldo have taken several years to remodel his swing and then come back to win even more Major Championships?
Science...
Yes, in the end, golf all boils down to getting the ball in the hole for as few shots as possible, but, those who really wish to push the boundary of their capabilities turn to experts from the world of science (especially physiology, biomechanics and the manufacturers of their equipment) for fine tuning. Pro golfers will stop at nothing to get the most minute advantage and obtain optimum results from their game.
