Pro Tour Golf on TV and in the Media

Welcome to the section of my website devoted to pro tour golf on TV and in the media.

golf on tv Pro golfers are fortunate because they often get a chance to express themselves in front of a camera both on and off the golf course. That can present an important opportunity for them to promote themselves, their team and any causes or projects they support. Generally, the more successful they are the more often they are called upon for interviews or to give golf commentary.

This is where you will be able to keep track of what I and other pro golfers have to say...

All that goes in to putting golf on tv...

It all looks so glamorous and fantastic sitting at home watching it on television. But the version of the professional golf tournament you see on tv is not the whole story.

Golf tournament hospitality tents When you watch the Masters Trophy from Augusta for example, you might marvel at the imaculately prepared greens and fairways. Then at the Open you might be amazed to see the huge tented village that has been constructed especially for the event.

Golf's major trophies are incredible feats of organisation and logistics but so too are pretty much all televised and high profile golfing events in the media.

Pro Tour Circus...

Professional golf tour events are rather like a big circus.

In this circus the pro golfers are the actors at the top of the pyramid. Below them the players have their caddies and support teams to make sure that all the props are in place and everything is set up for them to perform correctly. At the base there are hundreds of engineers, technicians, volunteers and officials that tie up all the logistics and ultimately provide the foundation for the whole show.

On-the-course and on-the-road...

The circus does not stay in town long, it is constantly on-the-road every week. For example on the European Tour, whilst the pro golfers are performing on-the course or taking their planes on to the next tournament, teams of technicians relay to set up and pack up all the apparatus.

Some members of the European Tour logistical team that I was talking to at the 2009 Vivendi Trophy told me of how two weeks ago they were in Asia. They had hired professional drivers to bring the lorries and trucks with all their gear across the continents to Paris. When I spoke to them just after all the players had teed off and were on the course in the final round, they were all ready packing and preparing to be on the move. The next stop was to drive themselves and everything down to the south of Spain for the European Tour event in two weeks time.

All that in one big effort to put pro tour golf on tv for you!

Entertainers...

So finally once it has all come together, a pro golf tournament hopefully brings some superb entertainment for the live spectators plus those who are watching golf on tv.

In the end, pro golfers have quite a responsibility to entertain and to express all that has gone into the show's production. Through their natural talent and a lot of training, they endeavor to inspire and exhibit what is possible at the pinnacle of the game.

Media Reporting...

The media and all the crews that put golf on tv for you at home, therefore have plenty of material to report on.

In the end though, it is naturally the pro golfers who get most of the attention. Their time is in high demand from television interviewing teams who have been known to beg or even fight for a word with the biggest golfing stars.

Here's a quick snippet of one of golf's greatest entertainers (with cigar as always) who is generally open to all questions in front of the camera (if you can understand him!)...

Any idea what he said !?!
...why not leave your golf commentary on YouTube
.
